What FoldNets keeps, and what it doesn't

Last updated October 6, 2026

FoldNets is used by students, often on school computers, so it's built to need as little information as possible. Students never make an account. Only teachers who choose the teacher plan sign in.

Using FoldNets without an account

Designing, printing and saving designs in your browser need no account. Saved designs, settings and class-set student names stay in that browser's storage on that computer; FoldNets never receives them.

Share links carry the design inside the link itself. Anyone with the link can open the design.

FoldNets uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page visits. It doesn't use cookies or follow anyone across other sites.

Students and class codes

Students join a class by typing a code at foldnets.com/join. Joining needs no name, email or anything else, and FoldNets doesn't record who opened a class. A wrong code is counted against a coded form of the internet address it came from, kept for up to a day, to stop people guessing codes. The last code typed is remembered in that browser only, to save typing it again.

A class code shows the class name, the teacher's display name if they set one, and what the teacher assigned.

A student's work on an assignment, and the first name they type for their print, stay in that browser for 30 days. FoldNets doesn't receive them unless the student hands the work in.

Hand-ins

When a student presses Hand in, FoldNets receives their work on that assignment and keeps it for the class's teacher. It's the only time FoldNets keeps a student's name. The student is told this, and sees their name, before anything is sent. A hand-in is:

  • The first name the student typed (30 characters at most)
  • The design they made, and which assignment it's for
  • When they handed it in

It isn't tied to an email, an account or a device. FoldNets doesn't store the internet address it came from: it keeps a coded form of the address for up to a day, only to stop one address flooding a class.

Only the class's teacher can see a hand-in. Students can't see each other's, or their own once it's sent; handing in again replaces it.

A hand-in is deleted 60 days after it's handed in, or sooner when the teacher deletes it, the assignment or the class.

Teacher accounts

When a teacher signs up, FoldNets stores:

  • Their email address, and their name if they give it (or Google shares it)
  • An optional display name for the join page and an optional school name
  • Designs saved to the account, with a small picture of each
  • Class names, class codes, what's assigned and any instructions written for students
  • What their students hand in (see Hand-ins)
  • The plan's status (trial, paid, cancelled) and renewal date

Class-set student names are removed from a design before it's saved to the cloud.

Who handles the data

  • Supabase stores accounts and teacher data in its Canada (Central) region.
  • Stripe takes payments. Card details go to Stripe directly; FoldNets never sees them.
  • Resend sends sign-up and password emails.
  • Vercel hosts the website.

FoldNets doesn't sell or share data with anyone else, and shows no ads.

Deleting your data

A teacher can delete their account at any time, under Account and billing in the teacher dashboard. That removes their designs, classes, codes and their students' hand-ins straight away and cancels the plan. Stripe keeps its own payment records, as tax law requires.
