Which nets fold into a cube?
Coming soon. We're checking this lesson against the app, step by step, so it works when you run it with a class. You can read the plan now. The lesson pack, teaching mode and assigning open once it's checked.
Predict, then fold: find as many of the 11 cube nets as you can.

Learning goals
- Predict whether six joined squares fold into a cube
- Explain why some arrangements overlap
Plan
- 1
A net that works5 minYou lead
Show the cube net in FoldNets and fold one in front of the class.
- 2
One that doesn't5 minYou lead
Draw a 2 × 3 rectangle of squares. Ask: will it fold into a cube? Fold it to check: two faces end up on top of each other.
- 3
Hunt20 minStudents
In pairs, students draw other six-square nets on squared paper, predict, then cut and fold to test. Each net that works goes on the board; turned or flipped copies count as the same net.
- 4
Sort10 minYou lead
Sort the class's nets into 'folds' and 'doesn't fold'. Reveal that there are exactly 11 cube nets. How many did the class find?
To talk about
- Why can't four squares meet at one corner in a cube net?
- What do all the nets that work have in common?
